Election of the Speaker of the IGIP Working Groups

Due to the new statutes of the IGIP working groups, it became necessary to elect a new Speaker and Coordinator of the Working Groups. I am very pleased being elected unanimously in Miskolc, on July 4, 2007. Until now Robert Ruprecht has done this work dedicatedly. Special thanks to his versatile efforts having in mind our common good cause “IGIP”. As a member of the board he will continue to stand up for the working groups. And I am looking forward for team up with Traugott Schelker as Co-Coordinator. We want to be present for actual concerns of the working groups and of the coordination of IGIP symposia.

I became member of IGIP in 1996. And since 1995, I have presented contributions to the annual IGIP symposia, especially in the working groups Technical Teacher Training and People and Technology. In 2001, I became ING-PAED IGIP and – together with Vera Ziroff-Gut – speaker of the working group Technical Teacher Training. In the following time, we have given some curricular promises. During the next years, most speakers of the IGIP working groups have participated in developing the new IGIP Curriculum, Version 2.

Key aspects of my occupational activities in Hannover (Lower Saxony) were educating and further training of vocational education teachers in most of the possible levels of education and training.

Conceptional Design of IGIP Working Groups

The working groups are the heart of IGIP activities. Here, actual presentations and current concepts in engineering pedagogy and continuing education are discussed. They promote exchanges of experiences and evaluations between universities with ING-PAED IGIP certification. And they are the places to formulate new common topics.

The IGIP working groups have taken an active part in developing a new IGIP Curriculum. During the IGIP symposium 2005 in Istanbul, this curriculum was officially authorised by the IGIP board, and presented to the audience (see IGIP Report 34 (2006), pp. 56–73). During the next years the main thematic focus should be in line with “Concretions due to the new IGIP Curriculum”. This should focus on the exchange of concepts and experiences between universities with IGIP certifications.

In this way, the working groups of IGIP intensify the scientific discussions in engineering pedagogy. Their periodical panels during the IGIP Symposia present engineer-typical pedagogical concepts and continuous improvements in teaching and learning pro-cesses.
